MOORESTOWN LACROSSE CLUB
COMMITMENT LETTER
Com-mit’ment n. Act of committing, or putting in charge, keeping or trust; state
of being committed
Once a year the Moorestown Lacrosse Club offers to the youth of our community a chance to
learn, play and hopefully enjoy the sport of lacrosse in a structured environment. The
timeframe we have to accomplish this is relatively short, only 8-10 weeks out of the year. You
cannot know the hours and committed efforts from many that it takes to maintain and run this
program for young boys and girls from the third through the eighth grades.
It is imperative that everyone within the club be on board with the same level of commitment.
The following are attendance guidelines that will be expected as part of the player’s
commitment to the program. Before registering your child for our spring season be prepared to
accept these commitments.
Third- through sixth-grade boys’ teams: At these entry-level grades, the Club makes
provisions for players who wish to try lacrosse but who are not sure about leaving their other
sports activities. Game attendance is mandatory. However, playing time during the games will
be directly tied to the number of practices the player attends per week. The coaches will
consider the age-appropriate excuses in advance and determine the amount of playing time
during games.
Fifth- and sixth-grade girls’ teams: There will be two, equally talented, teams made up of no
more than 22 girls per team. To the extent that more than 44 girls register for Travel Lacrosse,
a process of assessments and cuts will ensue. The VP-Girls, Girls' Coaching Coordinator, and
volunteer coaches will make the final roster decisions. Prior year travel lacrosse participation
and commitment are factors that will be considered when determining the rosters. Any girls
that are cut from Travel will be encouraged to participate in the Moorestown Recreation
Lacrosse Program and try out for Travel the following year. All registration fees for girls that
are cut will be refunded in full. The season will be made up of mandatory twice a week
practices.
Seventh- and eighth-grade boys’ teams: These are the most critical years for the players to
fine-tune their skills and to obtain maximum knowledge of the game in order to best prepare
for the high school programs. Attendance at games and practices is mandatory. The coaches
will evaluate excuses only if they are presented to them in advance. Playing another sport
during lacrosse season will not be accepted as a valid excuse. By this level, we expect
players to be committed to lacrosse. Playing time is directly tied to the number of practices the
player attends per week.
